Released in 1969, Ô de Lancôme is a citrus chypre: lemon, mandarin and bergamot held together by basil, then handed over to an aromatic heart of rosemary and coriander threaded with honeysuckle and jasmine. Vetiver, oakmoss, sandalwood and cedar give it the dry frame of a true chypre, where most of the fresh waters of the period stopped at the citrus. The trail stays short and clear, with no sweetness added.

Wears either way; nothing in it stakes out a side. Four hours is the realistic ceiling, so a travel spray belongs in the bag on a long office day. Vetiver and oakmoss keep the last stretch from thinning into spent citrus, holding the dry edge to the end. Spring and summer weather.
