A cosmetics and fragrance house founded in 1935 by Armand Petitjean, who had previously worked for François Coty. The name is a variation on Lancosme, a château in central France: Petitjean was after something French-sounding that would be easy to pronounce anywhere. The line opened with five fragrances: Tendres Nuits, Bocages, Conquête, Kypre and Tropiques. L'Oréal acquired the house in 1964.
