A saddler founded in Paris in 1837, Hermès approaches perfume as it does leather: few releases, much restraint. Its first fragrance was Eau d'Hermès, composed by Edmond Roudnitska in 1951; Calèche, in 1961, would be the first feminine one. The house long commissioned its perfumes from a succession of great names before creating, in 2004, an exclusive perfumer's post for Jean-Claude Ellena. Christine Nagel joined in 2014 and succeeded him in 2016.
