Mefisto

EDP · 2009

Not rated yet — be the first

Mefisto opens on Calabrian lemon, grapefruit and bergamot, cut straight away with lavender flowers. Its heart rests on two staples of classical perfumery, Florentine orris and rose absolute; amber, cedar, Mysore sandalwood and musk close it. The name points somewhere dark, but the build is clean and soapy rather than oriental. Xerjoff relaunched the Casamorati house in 2009 and counts Mefisto among the formulas left closest to the original recipes.

The name points somewhere dark; nothing here is. Citrus leads at 92 over lavender at 76, and the whole reads as a clean, soapy cologne. Three sprays carry no risk, projection 6. Longevity 7 — plan a top-up across a full day. Spring and summer, the office included, which is exactly where it sits best. Leans masculine at 75/100, without the trail that would make the number a constraint.
