Gucci Pour Homme was released in 2003 and composed by Michel Almairac. Its most recognisable material is papyrus, a dry smoky wood held up by orris and frankincense, with white pepper, pink peppercorn and ginger at the opening. Vetiver, amber and leather sit underneath. It has been discontinued, and should not be confused with Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme, released in 2008.

Papyrus runs the whole thing: woody at 90, incense at 84, and no sweet facet to round it off. Two sprays, projection 6, longevity 7. Autumn and winter, evenings or dressed occasions — it also works at the office, which is unusual at this level of incense. Clearly masculine at 85/100. If smoky woods usually read austere to you, the orris at the heart is what softens them here.
