Valentino Garavani founded his house in Rome in 1960 with Giancarlo Giammetti, after working for Jacques Fath, Balenciaga and Guy Laroche. The first, eponymous fragrance launched in 1978 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. Perfumery restarted in 2011 with Valentina, then Valentino Uomo in 2014.
